The co-founders of the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed how parent company Unilever blocked the launch for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that established the company with his partner, announced how he plans to personally create this new product as part of a personal series showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's has been barred from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company

The recent announcement deepens the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based consumer goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed how the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur announced via social media that he's developing a new watermelon-based sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its colors, that match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling their Israel business to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which originally established several years back to support former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated that he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which the company was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns that the company's autonomy had been undermined following Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to keep working within the organization to fight for corporate autonomy so that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles which established its foundation while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
