Federal Officials Disclose Arrests in Foiled Year-End Terror Plot Near Southern California

US authorities declared on Monday that they had effectively disrupted a comprehensive plot to set off bombs at multiple sites belonging to two corporate companies on New Year's Eve in the LA region. The operation followed the detainment of suspects linked to an extremist offshoot promoting anti-capitalist and anti-establishment beliefs.

Those Arrested Apprehended During Remote Rehearsal

The four suspects were taken into custody last Friday in the remote area located east of Los Angeles at the time they were reportedly practicing their planned strike. Officials displayed from above monitoring video to the media, that showed the individuals moving a large black device to a surface. Authorities stressed that the arrests occurred ahead of the individuals could construct a working IED.

Identities of the Accused Made Public

According to the filed legal filing, the four people listed are a 30-year-old named Audrey Illeene Carroll; Page, 32; Dante Gaffield, 24; and Lai, 41. All four are understood to be from the LA region.

Suspected Motivation and Connections

While officials did not explicitly outline a motive, they said the group are adherents of a splinter group known as the Turtle Island Liberation Front. This organization allegedly advocates for "laborers to revolt and combat against capitalism," according to the court papers.

The charges include conspiracy and owning a destructive device. Prosecutors stated that more accusations are expected in the weeks ahead.

Particulars of the Reported "Operation Midnight Sun"

Officials said that one of the suspects had created a meticulous plan last month to target multiple corporate facilities across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The targets were described as "similar to Amazon" distribution warehouses.

"This scheme was explicit," an official stated. "It contained detailed directions to construct explosive devices … and identified multiple sites across Orange County and Los Angeles."

As per the probe and court documents, the plan involved placing bags packed with complex explosive devices that were planned to be detonated simultaneously at midnight on New Year's Eve at several places. New Year's Eve was seen as an opportune time since the scheme noted "celebratory explosions will be going off at this time so detonations will be more difficult to be detected."

The eight-page manually written plan, named "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," stated that more sites could be added. The facilities were identified as assets and facilities owned by two separate corporations involved in business affecting interstate and foreign commerce.

Future Plots and Materials Found

The investigation also revealed that two people in the collective had talked about subsequent strikes targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and transport with pipe bombs in 2026. One accused according to the complaint commented that such actions "would kill some and frighten the rest of them."

These plans were allegedly talked over both at an physical assembly in Los Angeles and through an encrypted digital platform.

Photos featured in the legal filings depict a desert campsite with what officials said were IED-construction components strewn across portable tables.

Official documents states that the group "all brought explosive materials to the site, including various sizes of plastic pipes, suspected an oxidizer, charcoal briquettes, charcoal powder, powdered sulfur, and material to be used as igniters, among others."

Instructions also had guidance on how to build the devices and how to avoid leaving evidence that could be linked back to the faction. The suspects had in the recent past purchased components and other items, via buys from e-commerce sites.

Operation and Follow-up

The FBI took action last week while the group were running through the operation in the isolated region near Twentynine Palms. "They possessed all the components they needed to construct an operational explosive device at that place," an official stated.

In the course of served search warrants, authorities allegedly found flyers for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one accused's dwelling that demanded "America Must Fall", and "ICE Must Go". At another accused's residence, police located a version of the elaborate attack blueprint.

The individuals were arrested peacefully. They were due to face a judge in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
